around the house

As a way to keep my photo mojo going this winter, I'm playing along with MCP Action's Project 52. It's a low pressure, join in when you can, photography challenge. My favorite kind! Last year, I used my blog and a self-imposed Photo Friday commitment to keep me clicking through the winter and it really worked. This year, I'll let the project tell me what my subject is. I think it will be fun to have someone else set the guidelines this time around...less thinking for my pea brain!

This week's subject is "Around the House". So, that's just what I did....took a little tour around and shot what caught my eye.

If you're wanting to improve your photography skills, I highly recommend this project or something similar to keep you motivated. Practice really is the key to taking better pictures.

This last week also found me repainting my front room yet again. For those of you keeping track, this makes paint job number four. I really think I've got it this time.

In fact, I'm sure of it.

I think.

I have big plans for this room. These photos give you a little sneak peak of what's in store, and I can't wait to show you when it's all done.

Our front room has no tv, so I grabbed my laptop and my Gilmore Girls dvd collection and the time flew. Painting is much more fun if Lorelai, Rory and Kirk are keeping you company.

Especially Kirk.

This next photo is to motivate me to finally get a camera and photography faq page added to my blog. It's one of my goals for early 2011.

And here, the last stop on the around the house tour, we have a card sent to me by my bff. It sits on top of a cupboard in our family room.

I love this card. It makes me laugh. I put it away when my nice little old lady friends come to visit me because they truly wouldn't get it, and for the sake of maintaining a potty mouth free blog, I did a little photoshop magic on the donkey word, but this card cracks. me. up.

It further cracks me up because my bff, the card sender, is a pastor's wife.

I think we should pray for her.

Have a great Monday!

  1. Hi Teresa!

Ok, seriously *love* that card! Totally my thing, I tell ya!

And 4 coats on your walls...hmmm...sounds slightly like my house. We must both suffer from "I-love-this-color-but-tomorrow-I-may-love-a-different-one" syndrome. But I will never admit it, so lets keep it our secret, ok??

    Happy Monday!

  2. I love everything about your house!! You hooked me eons ago with a photo of your kitchen, and I get deeper involved each time you post stuff like this. That first photo? Swoon-worthy.

I totally understand about the re-paint job. When a color isn't right, it isn't right, and waiting isn't going to make it more right. Paint is cheap, and your labor is free, so repaint away. Looking forward to the reveal.

  3. Teresa, being a donkey momma we use that word freely around here. My nephews (all under 11) love to come to Mimi’s house so they can say the A word. I know, I’m a terrible aunt. At any rate--love all your shots. Your colors are so wonderful I would love to know the blue/green shade you use and what brand. It’s a wonderful shade. Your photography is wonderful. Happy Monday

  10. I love the photo challenge, Teresa! One of my goals this year is to grow my photography skills, so I may try something like that. Snowed in today in Georgia (can you believe it?). Great place to start with picture-taking, I think. :)

  14. Theresa,

LOVE every picture... I wish I could get away with a lot more pastels in my house but I think my husband would run screaming from the house!

That tulle picture is too fun!! And I'd really love to own those glass knobs/handles ;)

Can't wait to see what other pictures you have in store for us as well as the repainting project.

  16. I think it's perfectly acceptable for your Pastor's wife to use the a** word -- after all, it's in the Bible!

  20. Aaaah. Always love my visits here. Every part! That card kicks... ;-0
Thanks for the idea of storing my vintage hankies in a jar! I'm all about storing more of my pretties out where I can enjoy even the storage. That's one I hadn't thought to stuff in a jar! Saw another cute link at Donnas party for storing cake sprinkles out on shelves in vintage shakers... I love using old books everywhere - that Anne of Green Gables book sits out here too! Maybe soon I'll have an organized and colorful house. (Don't hold your breath on the organized part. Tho colorful chaos abounds!)
    hugs,
    Leslie

  22. Hey - I know that aqua-lidded jar!!

You are the Queen of McCoyville, and that's a high, high compliment. It pains me that I have never seen your digs or your garden or your dudes in person...

  23. Oh, for the love of piebirds - yours is a cutie! And in an odd coincidence, I have received that exact same card along with it's sister card, "Make your own d*** dinner," which is hanging out on my refrigerator. :-)

  24. The Gilmore Girls keep me company too! Lorelai lives on! Nothing better than listening to their creative banter to get you through the drudgery of household cleaning. If you like GG check out Answer Man staring Lauren Graham and Jeff Daniels. Great little movie.

  25. Beautiful! I love your blog, it's like sunlight on a dreary NW rainy day. :) I love all the pictures, but had to comment on the "Anne's House of Dreams" book, since it is my favorite of the "Anne" books. Are you an Anne fan too, or just like the book's color? :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. ESPECIALLY Kirk.
Oh yay! A GG fan! I. Am. So. Happy!! They truly can make any chore, any life problem, any anything - fun!! :)

  29. I need some inspiration, but I despise taking photos indoor. Your photos really cheer me up. I love that Bingo card! Is it the only one? (a winner everytime?) Hopefully this winter thing will be over soon!

  30. I can't wait for the photography page! this is something I have been itching to take up for years and your blog gave me that extra push!

  31. Today, in between painting furniture and everyday tasks, I read your entire blog. I happened upon Rhoda's (Southern Hospitality) feature post about you. I saw the photos and lost my breath, swooned, had an attack of the vapors, etc. That's only a mild axageration. I love your house, love your flowers, love your style, love your colors, love your photography, I even love your holey blue Gap hoodie. Wonderful!!! Please keep blogging. I look forward to reading about more rooms in your home.

  32. I very much enjoyed the tour. You have such pretty things and group them in an artistic way that is soothing to the eye. Nice going! Love that card too!

  33. Teresa, If I had not been convinced before that I would find your home to be a dream come true your photos today would have sealed the deal! Your lovely treasures scattered around are truly beautiful and your talent for color and arragements is an inspiration.

Now about that card - - it's just so funny! I haven't been able to stop giggling about it. Even told my hubby about it and he gave up a little chuckle too!

  34. I will have to check out the photo challenge. Sounds like fun. And those aqua pottery pieces are beautiful. Great photos!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Ok...the card is even more funny since your friend is a pastors wife. :) And, your colors ARE-TO-DIE-FOR. Just saying.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I love the color you have in your home! It must keep things so cheerful through the winter months. That being said, it probably doesn't get nearly as gray there as it does here in the winter...
Thanks for sharing - can't wait to see what you are doing in that front room!
    xx

  38. That card is a riot. I think I would totally love your pastor's wife too. Wish I could say the same about my sad garden, but alas, it does not exactly kick a**.

  42. Thanks so much for stopping by ~ I really appreciate it!

Your photos are beautiful, as is your home. Can't wait to see what you're doing with a new paint job, etc. The card is great!! Makes me smile to know that a pastor's wife is "real" and not acting like the church lady. :-) The word is in the Bible...no problem!

    Hope you're having a great week ~

  43. Wow, just found you through Southern Hospitality. You have blown my mind! I love the house - I made my husband come over to the computer to see the before and after pics, to prove to him that people really do "tear" into renovation projects. And I love the color scheme throughout the house! I hope that if we ever redecorate, you'll be offering your services!

  48. Your pictures are so great! I have never been a picture taker. I am the one who showed up at every high school and college graduation and left the camera on the kitchen table or in the car!
I have noticed that the pictures I have recently taken for my blog are not very good though. Blurry and blah. Blogs have shown me the difference in a photograph and just a plain ol' pic. Me got some learning to do if I want the former. But, I am lazy. so for now I will just ogle yours! And your garden does kick some major a**!!

  49. Hi Teresa,
I'm not totally sure of what yo are doing in your living room, but whatever it is I know it is going to be gorgeous! Your colors are so fresh and pretty, I can't wait to see the outcome.
Thanks so much for visiting me back, so nice to meet Christian ladies.
    Hugs, Cindy
