say goodbye to yester-year

Happy New Year's Eve, my friends!

We'll have a houseful of teenagers tonight, so my hubby and I are going to ring in the New Year by eating pizza, (hopefully there will be some left after the youngsters have at it), watching The Help, and desperately trying to stay awake until midnight so we (my hubby, actually) can chauffeur the gang home. Most of them have their driver's licenses, but the last thing I feel comfortable doing is sending them out on the crazy, drunken New Year's Eve roads.

The girls want to make a wish on the dock at midnight, and I can't wait to see how many boys end up participating in that. Apparently, there's also been talk of sprinkling glitter as they make their wishes.

I love it!

My son is not as enthused, but the sooner the better to learn that when your girlfriend wants to sprinkle glitter.....you'd best sprinkle you some glitter.

So, how about you all?

Champagne and fancy dresses?

Or maybe p.j.s and hot chocolate are more your style.

I'd love to hear what you're doing to welcome 2012.

Cheers to the year ahead!

  8. We go to Chuck-E-Cheese with some of my neighbors. Soo exciting, I know! LOL We actually have a great time. The kids go off and play games while the adults socialize, ...and us Moms and Dads even indulge in some friendly competition! We get home early enough to put the kids to bed, get in our PJ's and watch a movie with a glass of wine. Happy New Year to You and yours Teresa! Can't wait to hear if the boys sprinkle some glitter and make wishes! Pictures please!

  20. Tonight it was nachos and football. Now we're watching the events in Times Square. There is some bubbly in the fridge, but we probably won't be awake at 12. We used to go out on New Year's Eve, but now we'd rather spend it at home now. I've really enjoyed getting to know you through your posts this year. Here's to a great 2012 for all of us.

  21. I am having diet coke and popcorn at my house tonight. Both my girls are over at friends houses. So, hubby and I are alone on New Years Eve for the first time in 16 years. He just came down and said it was too quiet in here. HA!
I hope you make it out to the dock to fling some glitter. We are never to old to make wishes at midnight. :)
Happy Happy New Years to you!

  22. Hello ONE more time this year Teresa! Tonight we are all together at home... who knows, this may be the last year. Our son didn't want to get "fixed up" for a New Year's Eve date, so he opted to stay at home, rent movies w/the family, and eat tortilla chips and various sauces & salsas. We've been playing movies & munchin' all night, and it's just so great to be together. Happy New Year to you, my Friend. {HUGS!} ~Sal

  27. A pretty quiet evening, except for the fireworks :) Managed to stay awake, and we walked down to the lake to watch the fireworks. New Year's Eve here is like 4th of July back in the states :) Our first couple years we went up to the highest spot on the side of a mountain, thinking those would be the best views. Last year we had visitors and couldn't do that so instead walked to the lake (a block away) and discovered that, lo and behold!, the views there are MUCH better! Whodathunk?! We could stand and turn 360 degrees and see fireworks in every direction. Once the "official" display was over, we came home and stood in the yard watching some pretty impressive fireworks in our own neighborhood. Some chatting with the neighbors and finally back inside. The fireworks kept popping off until after 2 a.m.

  35. Oh yes, I forgot what topic we were on....New Years Eve. It went down a little something like this:

Husband: I'm really tired, don't feel great, let's just stay home and not go out.
Wife: Right on, I'll just call a couple friends and they'll come over for some games and chips and salsa....

we finally rolled our exhausted from hootin' and howlin' bodies into bed at about 1:00 am this morning. My husband is so lucky to be married to someone who listens to him so well and understands his every need...sigh...what would he do without me...

  36. I'm a little late to the game here but after traveling all dayon New year's Eve, it was lights out at 10 pm.

...followed by lights back on around midnight as our neighbors ignited their hoarded stahs of fireworks. Which sound exactly like small bombs going off when you're sound asleep. :-)

    Happy New Year!
