texture anyone?

For photo Friday this week, I was going to don my Arctic tundra wardrobe and go for a winter walk by our creek (brook) to photograph the naked landscape. And I was going to be quick about it.

Then I went to the grocery store, and these beauties found their way into my cart - immediate change of plans. I figure the creek will still be frozen and the trees will still be bare next week, and maybe it won't be three below zero outside then.

I have been tinkering with some new textures I got about a month ago, and thought I'd give them a try today.

This one's my favorite.

Here they are again, plus a few more textures.
I'm just learning how to use them, but I think they're pretty fun.

Most of my family likes the untextured version. I, as usual, like both.

So, how about you?

Are you all about pure and clean?

Or do you like a little texture junk in your photography trunk?

On a side note, I wanted to say that most, and in fact, almost everything I do is at least partially inspired by something I have seen somewhere else. In fact, I think I've only ever had two or three totally original thoughts, and at this moment, I can only think of one of them. Anyway, I want to give credit where credit is due, so I will always share my sources and inspiration.

The textures are from the Flora Bella Collection. Her photo's are gorgeous.

I'm a photo newbie. Would you be able to give beginniner's tutorial? I actually purchased the Flora Bella Collection but am still learning how to use. Any insight is most appreciated!

    Thank ya!

  4. Hi Anonymous!
If you go to the Flora Bella blog, she gives some guidelines on how she processes her photo's. That's what I followed for the first one, then flew by the seat of my pants for the rest. Have fun!

  6. Beautiful photos - I like them all! There is beauty in the crisp, sharp, untextured, and in the softness of the textured ones as well ... Anyone of these is perfect ... simply beautiful.

  7. Ok, Ok...I take back what I said about photo editing. These are swoony swoon. I think my fave is your fave. Pink roses in January? Dreamy!

ps- About the enchis...I had cheese inside, but none on top. Sorrrrrrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

pss- They were SO good. Calvin wasn't sure at first, but then I told him that they are Firehouse Enchiladas and he cleaned his plate.

  12. Oh yes, I like them both. Most of all, I love the roses, as pale pink is my favorite, and they brighten my winter day, also!

  13. Umm, I LOVE the texture and I think maybe it depends on my mood on any given day and the composition of the photograph. Also I'm wondering if you will come take the photos when my girls marry. You know, in the way, way distant future.

  15. I have those same textures and have hardly touched them. I take mostly photographs of people, and they don't seem quite as appropriate for that. And actually, until I saw your post, I'd forgotten that I have them...thanks for the reminder! I'll have to play a little more.

  28. Hi! I'm new to your blog via The Farm Chicks (I think!).
I used to live in Meadowbrook, PA and there is THE most fabulous nursery there called, what else?, Meadowbrook Farm.
It is so gorgeous, you could adopt it as your namesake!
You can Google it if you want and look at their photo gallery.
You'll want to visit if you're ever in Southeastern PA!
    Just thought you'd wanna know.
