summer afternoon

A porch swing....

A magazine....sometimes a book....

The reading material varies, but what comes next never does.

I tell myself, every single time, that I'm just going to rest my eyes for a minute or two.

And every single time, I believe I can do it - rest my eyes, that is - without falling asleep.

And every single time, I'm wrong.

The next thing I know.....I see this.

Sit up.....

Sweep the cobwebs from the corners of my mind, and carry on with my day.

"Summer afternoon - summer afternoon.....the two most beautiful words in the English language."
~Henry James

  1. This is funny! I just posted the exact same quote!

  2. They are the most beautiful words aren't they? I don't think I could resist drifting off in that peacful setting either. What a pretty view you have to wake up to. Thanks for sharing, enjoy your lazy summer days thats what they were made for!

  3. Hi Teresa! How beautiful! I could spend a lot of time on that precious porch swing! Your surroundings are so gorgeous.
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)

  4. I would end up doing the same thing! What a beautiful view to have in front of you when you wake up. :)

  5. It may just be my imagination, but I have a feeling it gets very quiet in your neck of the woods. The stillness along with the scenery, and a cool breeze...I think I'd be nappin' too.

    Sweet Dreams,

  6. Love the swing. It makes nice spot for napping.

  7. Your porch swing is to die for! I am inspired to make bright covers for my porch pillows. And your yard is just so beautiful. I could sleep there all the time. You have created a slice of heaven!

  8. How beautiful! ... I am in awe.

  9. Now that is the perfect way to spend an afternoon.

  10. Dreamy. Seriously. That porch swing, those cushions. They make my eyes hurt they are so cute.

  11. The view from your porch swing is beautiful, no matter which angle you are looking at it from. I love the vintage fabric in those pillows too! have a wonderful weekend!

  12. What a perfect way to waste a bit of time... totally divine!

  13. Just woke up from a wonderful
    nap, myself....out in the
    Pacific Northwest, where I'm
    visiting my folks : ) I hear
    the water from their brook
    babbling through the open window
and despite a very great book,
I find my eyes growing heavy....
But, oh, what beauty when I
wake up! And, I'm on holiday,
    so what the heck, right?
    LOVE your pictures!!
    xx Suzanne

  14. Hi there, I love the atmosphere of your porch, swing and yard. The fabric on the cushion and pillows are so vintage, just delightful. We used to have a swing but not now-we don't have an overhang at least out back and our front porch is too small. Love your flowers as well, and I love naps-especially on the weekend.
    Have a wonderful weekend.

  15. Ahh! Your porch scenery is beautiful. How relaxing! Love it!

  16. I do that sitting in my chair, as of late.

  17. Do I evah want to sleep up on that porch of yours. Beam me there, Benny. Beam. Me. There.

  18. Honey-you are getting to old to sit for too long a spell. But what a nice spell it is. Looks so fresh there-do you the humidity we get here? A girl could have some proper daydreamin' there.

  19. That is one of the loveliest spots I've ever seen. I'm glad to hear that you make the most of it. It seems that as I get older it becomes more and more difficult to not fall asleep when I try to read.

  20. There's nothing like it...drifting off with a gentle breeze and the singing of the birds. Enjoy it! It's okay to slow down and take a break now & then from the daily "must-do's!"

  21. I don't think that I have ever commented on this blog, but I want you to know just how very much I enjoy every single visit that I have here. I like it so much that I mentioned your blog on my blog today, so that others could receive the same blessing that I do. This latest post with the porch swing and the gorgeous vintage fabrics is so beautiful and so relaxing. Thank you for sharing farm life in such an attractive way, and for sharing your amazing photography skills with all of blogland. You are a gifted lady.

  29. Loverly place for a snooze! Except you'll need a light blanket here in the PNW...

Now that I think about, rarely do I read and sit up at the same time.

  30. I want to move in with you. It looks like you live in paradise! Love the quilts and pillows. They put a smile on my face!
