summer afternoon

A porch swing....

A magazine....sometimes a book....

The reading material varies, but what comes next never does.

I tell myself, every single time, that I'm just going to rest my eyes for a minute or two.

And every single time, I believe I can do it - rest my eyes, that is - without falling asleep.

And every single time, I'm wrong.

The next thing I know.....I see this.

Focus....

Sit up.....

Sweep the cobwebs from the corners of my mind, and carry on with my day.

"Summer afternoon - summer afternoon.....the two most beautiful words in the English language."
~Henry James

  5. It may just be my imagination, but I have a feeling it gets very quiet in your neck of the woods. The stillness along with the scenery, and a cool breeze...I think I'd be nappin' too.

  13. Just woke up from a wonderful
    nap, myself....out in the
    Pacific Northwest, where I'm
    visiting my folks : ) I hear
    the water from their brook
    babbling through the open window
and despite a very great book,
I find my eyes growing heavy....
But, oh, what beauty when I
wake up! And, I'm on holiday,
    so what the heck, right?
    LOVE your pictures!!

  14. Hi there, I love the atmosphere of your porch, swing and yard. The fabric on the cushion and pillows are so vintage, just delightful. We used to have a swing but not now-we don't have an overhang at least out back and our front porch is too small. Love your flowers as well, and I love naps-especially on the weekend.
    Have a wonderful weekend.

  18. Honey-you are getting to old to sit for too long a spell. But what a nice spell it is. Looks so fresh there-do you the humidity we get here? A girl could have some proper daydreamin' there.

  19. That is one of the loveliest spots I've ever seen. I'm glad to hear that you make the most of it. It seems that as I get older it becomes more and more difficult to not fall asleep when I try to read.

  20. There's nothing like it...drifting off with a gentle breeze and the singing of the birds. Enjoy it! It's okay to slow down and take a break now & then from the daily "must-do's!"

  29. Loverly place for a snooze! Except you'll need a light blanket here in the PNW...

Now that I think about, rarely do I read and sit up at the same time.
