blue christmas

Blue is not your common everyday Christmas color. That said, in years past I have been able to find quite an amazing amount of aqua blue to adorn my dining room. I haven't been out shopping much this year, but last year I hit the jackpot in the aqua/crystal/mercury glass department.

A Christmas wreath of the Martha persuasion...shatterproof (i.e. cheap plastic) balls from her K-mart (Kame-apart to my kids) collection, and glitter from her ultra fab Michael's "essential colors glitter set."
*edited to add, the glitter set is on sale this week for 25% off!

Side note....I feel an entire post dedicated to glitter brewing, as well as a separate post dedicated to Martha. Both are swirling in my head and must. get. out.

I am still not ready to buy a macro lens, but I would love to be able to get closer to things like this pretty, sparkly crystal bead....

Have you started decorating yet?

  4. MY GOODNESS! You rival Martha in every way! Your blue is to DIE for and looks perfectly at home in your cute-as-pie house! I have not started decorating yet, I have to get rid of all the Thanksgiving decorations first....gettin' right on it!

  5. Love, love the blue - which is fast becoming my favorite color (in aqua or robin's egg blue). I haven't started decorating yet, and probably won't until the end of the first week of December. I like to leave about a week between Thanksgiving and the start of Christmas decorating.

  7. I am not on my own stomping grounds yet (still at mom and dad's) but I'm itching to get home and get started! Did you make the Marthatastical wreath? Is it one of those clothes hanger wreaths? Super swoony.

  8. Wow, your photos are stunning! If I had those beautiful blue decorations I would be having some fun right now playing with them. They are fabulous. I have one tree up and some decorations, but had to stop because we are expecting company this weekend and had to put the totes away.
I too would love the glitter and Martha post.

  9. OoOoooOo I love the blue colors and white, looks great together! Your home remodel is very impressive, great job.

We love Christmas so much around here. We usually start getting things out mid November. We are finishing up the lights on the outside of the house and need to decorate the tree.

    Merry Christmas!!!

  10. I like the blue decorations...I'm going to go with an eggshell blue and red color combination for all my wrapping this year. My family is turning up their noses at the prospect, but I just think this is gonna look so festive and fresh....

Did start pulling out decorations this evening and declared to everyone within listening distance that all decorations will be put up by Sunday @ 8 p.m. or they are not going up at all. No more worrying/stewing for days about all the decorating "really not finished"...

  11. Beautiful, I love decorating with blue for Christmas. A few years ago when I was shabby chic, my whole tree was blue and pink and it was like a fairy land in our house. Hey, I am having a contest, please stop by.

I love your dining room.....it is so clean and fresh.....but I do have my brand new Christmas up on 521 Lke Street! Come on over and see what you think! Sandy

  14. I love it all! And your wreath! I just got a huge box of vintage ornaments to do a wreath like that. I've been wanting to do one for years. What kind of wreath did you use underneath? I was thinking about one of the double wire ones. And instruction would be awesome! I love the colors you've used. Color is really making me happy these days. And your blog of course always makes me happy.

  18. When I was little my Mom decorated our living room tree with all silver and blue. It was so magical. The tree in our family room was multi-colored lights and all of our homemade ornaments. Both trees were so beautiful and fit their surroundings perfectly. Thanks for reminding me of my childhood with your wonderful blue decorations!!!
