hazy lazy days

Do you ever have days where you feel like this little guy?

Or girl?  It's kind of hard to tell, but he just kind of seems like a boy to me.

My sister claims this is how she looks before she has her morning coffee.

Scary.

Watching this little nest was definitely a highlight of my summer.

The weather has been gorgeous.

I've got the most outrageous farmer's tan ever.

I've made a point of choosing my porch swing over my computer screen, and that's been a good thing.

But, I can already feel a change in the air.

The nights are crisper.

The flowers are fading.

There's a 36 degree morning in the forecast.

I want to make sure to catch every last second of my very favorite time of year while I can.

How about you?

Has it been a good summer at your house?

Are you ready for fall with its cool, crisp days?

Or are you like me,  hanging on to these last hazy days with all your might?

Chime in with your favorite season and then go have yourself a great Thursday!

  1. Love the bird pictures, too cute!!! I love all the seasons but I have to say Fall is my favorite, but then I love a good snow! and also love it in the spring when everything comes to life, this summer was really hot here and we were kind of in a drought! I am looking forward to fall, but the days are getting cooler so I will enjoy the rest of the summer !!! Have missed looking at your pictures but I so understand!!!! Happy Thursday to you too!

  2. Wow - what amazing photos. I feel a bit like that before I've had my first cuppa of the morning too! I love Autumn and everything it brings - a new school year, great seasonal food, walks through woods, the first lighting of the fire, candles in the evening, a quilt on the bed, socks, cardigans and cosy evenings. Bring it on!!

  3. Cozy up - it's coming. Fall! My favorite time of year.

I'm off to make breakfast, for the kiddos. I was thinking about "eggs in a nest"... but now, not so sure. ;)

Cute pics nonetheless. You always take phenominal photos. Love it.

  4. Welcome back! What stunning and sweet pictures. I love all the seasons but I have a hard time letting go of each of them. (Except maybe winter haha.) As much as I welcome fall I am hanging on to these last days of summer. Enjoy!

  5. My summer just got better, hearing from you and seeing your beautiful little birdie pics. Isn't it awesome fun to watch them hatch and grow! I'm afraid I look like the first bird (and your sis) in the mornings. My favorite season is fall and I'm glad we're heading that way - you can already see "end of summer" signs all around, including the blooming of the crape myrtles. I'm sad, though, to see my first-ever deck container garden coming to an end - already 5 empty flower pots of my little friends who couldn't survive the 107 weeks. But yay! my newly-discovered beauties, zinnias, are going strong! My 16-y-o Elizabeth recently got a new camera, if you have time stop by her new blog, gizmo.blogspot.com. Hugs ~ Mary

  6. The Summer has been lovely but I'm ready for Fall and the slower pace, cooler weather, and the structure of a school schedule :)

It's good to 'hear' from you again and your birdies are kinda cute too!

  7. Hi Teresa!! Happy to see you in my reader this morning!! I have to admit that I LOVE autumn, but I dread the shorter hours of daylight! I'm with you in savoring every last moment of light and warmth!! Cute pics! xoxo Debbie

  8. I'm just like debbie, above. I LOVE autumn, but really dislike and dread the short days. When the sun goes down before 6 pm I dream of summer, but not the summer with weeks of 110 temps.

The baby bird photos are fantastic; you are such a great photographer and I've missed you this summer, but what could be better than spending it the way you have.

  9. Fall is the season for me. I love the combine running, pies in the oven, mums on the porch, pumpkins on the table... We have had incredibly hot days and a severe drought. I am so over Summer. Glad you got some porch time. I was a Roadrunner most of the summer. :(

  10. How on Earth did you capture those photos? They are amazing and yes, I have seen that face a time or two in the mirror before my first cup of coffee. I am in Southern California so I am definitely ready for fall and cooler temps. You have a wonderful Thursday, too.

  11. Such little cuties! Amazing pictures! I will admit I do love all of our seasons but by far I love summer to its end! I would much rather it be hot and hazy than cool and crisp! lol. It's been alot cooler here, and I'm already missing those hot summer days. Hope you have a great day! Hugs, Holly

  12. I love Summer!! I have struggled with Seasonal Affective Disorder for several years. The end of August is always so sad for me. The past couple of years, though, I have tried to suck every bit of summer out as I can. As summer doesn't officially end until mid-Sept., that is where I keep my mind. It's still summer, even though kids are back in school, etc. I also have been more purposeful about enjoying the early spring and fall months as much as I can. They really are beautiful. Instead of wishing winter away, remembering the fun clothes, great food and my fireplace that are all a part of the colder months sure goes a long way to help me forget my longing for summer. But never completely...

  13. It has been a good and very hot summer. It's cooling off a little here but definitely no 36 degree mornings yet...we had 70 today and that's a bonus. I love all of the seasons as they change. Like BJ, the winter can give me the blues a little but staying busy always makes a difference for me. :)

  14. well it's always a good day when you post! glad to hear you're enjoying the summer!

  15. I love, love, love fall! I am excited for it's arrival....this summer has been way too hot for my taste! Love the pictures....I have definitely had days like that. So glad to see a post from you! :)

  16. I've been a blog slacker lately. Just too busy. I am storing up these late summer days and looking forward to the coming fall. I love the smell and sound of crisp fall leaves and the chill in the air.

  17. Definitely ready for Fall here. I'm so over the whole heat thing and the smoke we've had the last few weeks. Bring on the cool mornings and no a/c for the day! Did you ever start the quilt for the guest room? :)

  18. Dear Teresa, boy have I been missing you!
I love your sweet little birdies and those blue eggs♥♥♥!
I love to see the end of summer because it's gotten so dang hot here, plus when I go visiting places with cooler weather, it's really hard to adjust to this heat again. I come back weather envious, garden envious...
The only thing I will miss of summer is floating around in my pool!
I love fall when our evenings finally begin to cool down some.
I love winter cause I can curl up in front of the fireplace...really, even in arizona!!
But my most favorite is spring, it's when I enjoy my garden the most!
    36 degree morning?? brrrr
    Blessings dear friend!

  20. Wow -- I think these are some of your most amazing photos yet! Although I was kinda worried about the little guy in the first one...he's just sleeping, right? :-)

I mentioned to someone this morning that summer here in the PNW is winding down already. We had our two 100 degree days last week and now it's almost too cool to sleep with the windows open.
I'm trying to comfort myself by looking at boots online. It's not really working. xo

  23. Love the season coming up, and then the one after. Some would say I am strange and I just say, no, I am a WINTER. So happy to see the Meadowbrook name today! Happy you have a farmer tan and that you have enjoyed the summer. Be well and happy . . .

  25. Hi Teresa,
Those little bitty birds are so cute. Were you able to see them fledge? Spring and summer are my favorites. I don't like fall because it means winter is coming, and winter here means rain or gray and little sun.

  26. we had a retchedly hot/humid July here in northern VA, but suprisingly (and thankfully) August hasn't been so miserable. I did hear on the radio the other day that we've had 48 days over 90 degrees, which is a record for our area. My favorite season is Fall...the new school year, sweaters, the changing leaves, the smell of wood smoke while walking the dog as the sun is just coming up. We still have a ways to go til there's a 36 degree morning in the forcast -- more like low 60's. Enjoy the last of your summer weather :)

  27. Hate to see summer end. Spent part of it up at the north shore of Lake Superior (Minnesota) and it was glorious. But I also adore the sweet transition between summer and fall. Cooler nights and mornings, and that fall smell in the air. The only downside to fall, it leads to winter, and here in Minnesota, sheesh do I even need to describe them. But livin` in the moment and enjoying the last vestiges of these summer days and the state fair. Yee-hah.

  28. Love your pics. Only a mother could love something that ugly and yet cute. So sweet and innocent. I'm hanging onto summer. Not ready for fall although I do love it and the football that comes with it. It's just that summer was so hot we could not enjoy it and now, finally . . . at last . . . it's perfect. Not ready to give that up yet. So glad you're back - missed your posts.

  29. Oh I have missed you!!! I could not be more thrilled that you have been off living your life, soaking up summer...just the way it should be. It was just two days ago that I felt the shift, that I knew that summer was technically over. Sure we will get a few more hot afternoons...but really, we could call it early fall. Fall is my favorite. I love EVERYTHING about it. Lovely to hear from you today friend.

  30. I am SO sad to be missing fall up north... favorite season ever. Post lots of pictures so I can ooh and ahh from afar :)

  31. I for one will be thrilled with this summer is over. I live in central Texas where it has been more than 100° everyday for more than 3 months. My electric bills look like the national debt because my air conditioner runs all the time.
Actually, fall is my favorite time of year. It is not really much cooler here, in the low 90's or high 80's. Our winter is super mild too.

  32. Incredible pictures! These look like they're straight out of a magazine!

    And I agree..he definitely looks like a boy ;)

  33. Glad to hear you've had a great summer, and welcome back to your computer! Hoping we will see some shots of your gorgeous yard! I am definitely ready for cooler weather and fall! We have had the hottest, driest, and most fire-ravaged summer I can ever remember in NE. We are back in school with no AC and still 100 degree temps. The kiddos are such troopers, but it's hard to focus when you're so uncomfortable. So come on fall! (Fall is my favorite in the fall, and spring is my favorite in the spring. Summer and winter are never really my favorite) Enjoy your flowers while they last!

  34. I'm glad to see you post! I've been enjoying summer. We went on a 9 day camping trip (lots of photos of one of the purest lakes on the planet on my blog - scroll down past today's post.) I'm with you.. I love summer and am not ready for the cold season. Ugh. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  38. A beautiful fall day gives me a thrill inside; the same feeling I get putting on a new pair of socks or opening a favorite Jane Austen hardback book. Notice how many of your readers love fall the best?

  39. Summer has been hotter than Hattie's here and dry as a bone! I feel like weare back in the dust bowl era. Kansas could sure use some rain, so prayers would be welcome. I am eagerly awaiting fall to show up here. Just to be able to open the windows and get some fresh air in the house will be wonderful. I even told my husband I won't complain if we get 20 inches of snow, as the earth is in dire need of a replenishing moisture. My favorite season is always spring because I just love the sense of new beginnings, the smell of fresh mowed grass and the smell of rain. Btw, I am so glad you are back! I understand needing a break though.

  40. I just came across your blog via pintrest, my husband and I have lost countless hours exploring your blog and all of your beautiful pictures, you have done an amazing job with your farm. We can't stop drooling, and saying someday. I do have a random request, my husband and I also bought an old farm home and I was wondering if you have a picture of the front of your house, we are getting ready for major changes, and I am heavily contemplating changing the color of our home to white. Thank you for sharing all of your inspiring, beautiful pictures, and talents.

  44. Absolutely beautiful pictures! I think for me, spring is my favorite. Something about everything being new again. Of course I like fall but I'm not a Halloween kinda girl. I am a good soup with a crusty bread and a walk in the leaves kinda girl so I look forward to that. We've missed you, but so totally get it! :)

  48. I love summer, but this year I was ill for three weeks and we had the hottest days. So it was awfully strenuous for me and as I love autumn too I'm so happy about chillier air. To be honest I love all the seasons in their own way except winter. Thank you for the cute pics of baby birds. I think they're cute and ugly at the same time.

  49. it's been a rough summer, it's been a wonderful summer. such is life. we suffered the death of my beloved father-in-law, celebrated hubby's and my 49th birthdays, took a much needed trip to the beach and one to the mountains. i am grateful for every moment, even the bad ones. it is a privilege and an honor to witness each birth and every passing of those we love. love your baby bird portraits. they are precious and remind me of the circle of life. blessings!

How lovely for Mrs. Bird to have such a gifted photographer take her baby's newborn pictures for her...I'm sure she's pleased as punch!
