my garden favorites

My favorite view of my house.....I take this shot over and over and over again.

Love the purple clem and the fluffy pink mallow. The pink mallow has totally taken over the picket fence garden this year. If I don't get it cut back before it goes to seed I'll be in big trouble next year. I'll have to rename our place Mallowbrook Farm.

My favorite flower ever....

Delphinium.

What's not to love?

My favorite birdhouse....

My only birdhouse!

Wrapped in a Princess Diana clematis.

And my favorite flower runner up, the ever faithful hollyhock.

Nothing says cottage garden like a hollyhock.

Favorite color combination.....

The monarda is a bit tattered, but I love the orange/pink/yellow combo with the hayfield in the background.

Favorite birdbath in which no bird has ever bathed......

This year I have many, many weeds lurking in the garden, but for the moment the flowers are winning out and my morning watering routine is my favorite part of my day.

How about you?

What are your garden favorite this time of year?

  1. Such a beautiful cottage garden. I don't have much in my garden but I have only had to water two times. We have had so much rain. Now I wish I would have planted more. We conserve our water since we are on a well. Oh well, I have gorgeous weeds.

  2. Roses, of course. :)

Seriously, I'm generally hiding in the house by this time of year, hoping the garden will still be there once summer's heat breaks. This year, it hasn't been so hot and we have had LOTS of rain. The roses are growing like crazy!

  3. Portulaca. :) about the one thing I can keep alive.
Love the lantana and turks cap. All hummingbird loving plants here. Your pictures are gorgeous. Praying you through this breast cancer trial. You can do it. Blessings.

  4. Why wouldn't that be your favorite view? So. I keep killing delphinium. It won't come back for me the following year. What am I doing wrong? I have plans to grow holllyhock next year. Feel free to send me some seeds from yours. My faves this year are phlox (can't get enough), lavender, my beloved crepe myrtle and any hydrangea.

  6. Your garden is lovely. What zone are you gardening in?

Here in 8a things are hot and hotter! My zinnias and hynacinth bean vine are doing well though. I love pink with a bit of red thrown in.

  7. your garden is absolutely lovely. oh, a white picket fence garden would make me gravitate there too! One of our gardeners here in the TX Medical center posts some of his tips now and then - he says that spending time in your garden combats the strains of mental fatigue. I'd have to agree that your morning watering routine is good for your health. sending my prayers. Oh, btw, my garden flowering superstars just now are the zinnias, hibiscus, salvia and geraniums. They never let me down. xo

  8. Beautiful, as always!! I have several birdbaths and none ever bath in mine either (or at least that I've seen...maybe they are shy?)
    Prayers to you!

  9. No other prettier blue than that of the Blue in Delphinium. I wish I had some of your Pink Mallow. It loves the sunshine. The front view of your house, charming birdhouse, beautiful flowers . . . I am overjoyed that I am seeing a bit of Meadowbrook Farm day!

  14. I just read your previous post and wish to all the best. You have the right attitude and that makes all the difference. Your garden is breath taking. If I didn't live in Australia I would come to weed and cut back the plants for you. I'm sure that you would be a fountain of knowlege to help me improve my gardening skills.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

  16. I just found your blog via another blog. My post (a private one) today linked back to this post ~ one I think every woman should read. Your message is profound and delivers an important message. I love your photography.

Wishing you the best during your recovery. Thank you for sharing your experience so that others might remember how important it is to do the monthly exams. I'm not faithful in doing those, but will now be much more mindful of the importance.

  18. Your garden is always enchanting, an inspiration for me on my almost blank slate of a yard. The birds bathe in my daughters metal snow saucer, that was taken out and left by the house. Go figure. I believe your blog followers are all sending love and strength on this rocky part of your journey. Thank you for sharing, not only the beauty of your wonderful home and life, but also the weeds that crop up in our travels. Take care of yourself.

  19. You always have the most beautiful garden! My favorite clem got clematis wilt this year...broke my heart. I have been unable to grow delphiniums but they are a favorite of mine. I think I will try hollyhocks next year. Right now our hydrangeas are gorgeous, lavender plants in bloom, and I love our ornamental grasses swaying in the breeze. I love blue, yellow and pink together. I bet I have more weeds than you do!!! Tending the garden sooths the soul. My best to you,
    Annette

  20. Lots of things are already "spent" around here, but the Butterfly Bushes are just starting to bloom, and the Lantana are finally looking "grown up." They struggled this year in the cool Ohio summer. I love the Delphinium as well but mine are done. Sometimes they bloom twice, but I haven't seen evidence of that this year. The weeds, however, are loving the cool weather and RAIN! They are happily thriving everywhere I look. I can't seem to keep up. Enjoy your day sweet Friend! ~Sal

  24. Your garden is inspirational! Mine is resembling brown patches of dirt with a few flowers & veggies that the catepillars have enjoyed nibbling, boo!

  25. I would say anything in YOUR garden is my favorite! LOL! Either our weather has either been blazing hot, pouring rain, or I've been working, which leaves my garden to look somewhat neglected. At least in my eyes anyway. And my rose garden ... oh it almost brings me to tears!

  31. So stunning! I just moved and I don't have flowers (insert sad sigh). I will come back often to stroll through yours. I'm missing my Limelight Hydrangea and my climbing roses.

  32. I'm blazing quite a battle against weeds this year too! For some reason they are crazy this year. Your garden looks so amazing. I love Delphinium also but have never had much luck growing it. I sure did enjoy your photo of it though.

  33. I love your favorite view of your house too. My favorite blooms this time of year have to be my limelight hydrangeas! Haven't taken many photos of my gardens this year but I do love spending time outside watering. I'm in no hurry for summer to end and will savor it all the way until September 21st.

  35. What a lovely, lush garden you have. Gorgeous.

  36. Your garden is beautiful! My favorite "garden time" of the year is spring-hands down. My garden goes from a brown uneventful area in the back yard to a beautiful lush green space full of color, sunshine and life, including honey bees, bumble bees, birds, earthworms and butterflies--and because of them I don't mind the dandelions, weeds and natural yard debris-which help them live peacefully. My garden is never more beautiful than springtime---but I'm working on it. Thanks for sharing.
