fresh apple cake

Another recipe!

From the photo dump!

Won't you be glad when I'm done with the photo dump and therefore quit saying the words "photo dump"?

Me too.

I made Paula's Fresh Apple Cake last fall when I had a couple girlfriends over for coffee and dessert.

Part of me wishes it was still fall, because apple cake is more of a fall-ish dessert than a late January dessert, but I suppose apples are pretty much a year round fruit, so here you go.

This is one of those cakes that gets better and better with each day spent in the fridge.

I served it with cinnamon whipped cream, which was delicious, and my sister serves it with cinnamon ice cream. I've never had cinnamon ice cream, but I can only imagine how delightful it would be with this cake.

(Can anyone tell me why it is that when I make a long photoshop document, like the recipe above, it shows up skinny on my blog even though it's the same pixel width as all my other photos that show up full width?)

(Edited to add that I do not use blogger for my photos. I upload to Photobucket and then paste them into my post.)

(Thank you in advance, because I find this to be very frustrating.)

Have a wonderful Monday!

  1. What beautiful photos and recipe! Thank you for sharing. On a technical note, you can edit this photo's size from what Blogger automatically does by going in and editing the HTML code. When you make a post, on the top right, click on the tab "HTML" scroll down, find the pics height and width and adjust accordingly. Switch back to compose and you can see your changes. I hope this helps. Good luck!

  4. Hi Teresa! That apple cake looks pretty darn delicious and the photos are awesome! You should make your own cookbook :) Cinnamon ice cream is delicious. My son made a batch for Thanksgiving and it was the bomb with apple pie :) Can't help with the photo/blogger issue. That stuff makes my head explode xoxo Debbie

  6. Printed it and will be making it soon for my little family. It was a very nice size for printing and looks quite lovely with the aqua border. I, for one, am very glad you are dumping so we can get recipes and stuff like that. Thank you. Hugs ~ Mary

  7. I wish I could help with your sizing issue, but I cannot. I'm loving your photo dump so I'm in no hurry for you to be done.

  8. ...I too am loving your Photo Dump. Altho' "dump" has sort of a negative connotation but I can't come up with a different word so "dump" it is. ;o)

...Thank you for the recipe! Can't help with the photo question as I just use Blogger's upload with Picasa. I do like that I can resize the photo with Blogger but I don't like my photos to be clickable so I just remove part of the html code and voila! I'm happy. :o)

    ...Have a great day!

    ...Blessings :o)

  10. Would you please dump more of your recipes? I really love your collage and the way you framed your recipe. Can't help you with the resizing issue because I'm not on Blogger. Cinnamon whipped cream sounds dreamy!

  11. I'm curious to know why you go through Photobucket? I'd also like to know where to find cinnamon ice cream unless it was homemade ... in which case I'm headed to your sister's house Right. Now.

Uh, where does she live? :-)

  13. Hi Teresa, I just found your blog after googling a bunch of garden stuff. I am in awe of your greenhouse! Your flowers and your photos are amazing. I have 3 boys myself. My oldest is engaged so the wedding posts are such fun!
I write my posts with Livewriter. Have you heard of it? It's really easy to write and adding pictures is a snap. I highly recommend. I don't know why your document would come out skinny. Very odd.

  17. I have made this recipe numerous times...it is to die for. Paula Deen has more than one apple cake recipe. Make sure you copy above recipe or look for the one called Grandgirl on foodtv.com website. Thanks for the idea of using a grater..sure would be easier. And yes, it just gets better each day. I keep mine in the fridge to keep it fresh. If you want it warm like an apple pie served with ice cream, just warm the cake in the microwave:) Thanks for sharing! Love your blog:) Debbie S.
