p is for palette

Color palettes.

Photoshop templates.

Shopping.

What do these things have in common?

Not much.

However, as I was following my normal post shopping trip routine the other day (my post shopping trip routine includes taking everything I've purchased and laying it out on my front room floor where it stays for days and sometimes weeks until I get my act together and put it away where it belongs), I noticed that a beautiful pastel color palette was just begging to be created.

My obsession with color palettes was born last year as I was visiting blogs like Magnolia Rouge and The Perfect Palette in preparation for my son's wedding. I love, love, love color inspiration boards. They make me happy. Pretty colors, pretty pictures....what's not to love.

Several weeks ago, I was visiting The CoffeeShop Blog - a great blog for all kinds of free Photoshop goodies - and noticed that Rita had created a great color palette template for Photoshop, and all the stuff sitting on my floor presented me with the perfect opportunity to make my very own color palette.

You have to admit that seeing all those pretty colors lined up in a row just made your Monday a little bit better.

Come on, admit it.

Ice cream bowls from Pier 1.

A new ironing board cover from TJ Maxx.

I've been admiring TJ's covers for years but could never bring myself to spend money on a new one when my 27 year old, industrial gray cover was still serving its purpose. Imagine my delight when a chunk of the scary, yellowish brown foam lining landed on the floor as I was ironing last week, giving me the perfect excuse to make the 100 mile round trip to TJ's for a pretty new cover.

Pom pom trim from JoAnn's, and two fabrics that I ordered online and love. I have big plans for these fabrics. I also have/had big plans for all the other fabrics in my fabric stash, but that's a story for another day.

So there you go. A pretty pastel palette for your Monday morning pleasure.

I hope it brightens your day!

  1. What a great way to brighten up and color MY day! LOVE all the pink and aqua goodness! I'm looking out my window right now at white, white and more white. Yes, we've been graced with snow in these parts by which I mean lots of snow at my house but not so much if you travel just a few miles to the south :( and on a holiday/day off from work no less... so since my shopping plans for the day have been scrapped I'll just have to enjoy yours :)

  7. I'm a navy/mustard/barn red/black kinda gal when it comes to decorating. They just seem to go with the antiques and primitives we have. But, I admit...I do love your pastels...they're cheery, bright, and happy. Thanks for sharing them!

  19. I think we are twins separated at birth. I keep looking at pretty ironing board covers and then think of somewhere better to spend my money. But, if it's falling apart, what's a girl to do? I'm off to start picking apart the foam right now.

  27. That is the color Pallete for Kaitlyn's new room makeover! In fact, I was going to head to Joanns this week to look for some pom-pom trim that color so I am glad that that's where you found it! It is a beautiful color palette! Your photos are always colorful and bright! Makes me happy!

  29. Ooooh, YES that makes me happy. Love your palette shot!!!! Also angry. I NEEDED an ironing board cover (after waiting like you) and went directly, but not quickly, to TJMaxx. Had seen one like yours but tried to be good... Now they're sold out and I'm back to facing my pitiful past of scorch marks n flapping foam. BTW - my childhood bedroom had sheets much like your petite flower print, along w/white wallpaper w/nickle size pink polka dots n pink pom poms on the curtains. No sweet ruffles like yours fabric but I sure loved it. Since I can't recreate your lovely marshmallow n mandarin pics maybe I'll copy your palette! (pinned you!) ;-)
    Stay snug!
